Packing for a family trip to Tokyo usually means one thing: giant suitcases filled with clothes to survive the humid summers or chilly winters. But as a local dad living here, I have a secret weapon that changes everything.
When we travel domestically, we often end up using coin laundries. It works, but honestly? Scrambling for 100-yen coins, buying detergent, and setting timers to move wet clothes… it interrupts family time. That’s why getting a room with an in-room washer and dryer is a total game-changer. It allows you to pack light and sleep while your clothes are being washed.

The “Tokyu Stay” Series: A Smart Choice
If you want a stress-free trip, Tokyu Stay is undoubtedly the best choice. This brand is known for its high quality, cleanliness, and consistency. Unlike typical business hotels, almost every room here comes with a high-spec drum washer/dryer and a microwave.

Located in the “Oku-Shibuya” (Inner Shibuya) area, this hotel offers a sanctuary of convenience. It’s quieter than the main crossing but only a 10-minute walk away. The rooms feature a quiet Sharp drum-type washer-dryer, and you receive detergent upon check-in.
MIMARU SUITES: Every Room Has Laundry
While standard MIMARU hotels often only have laundry in specific premium rooms, the “MIMARU SUITES” brand is special. Here, every single suite comes with an in-room washer and dryer.

This is a fully furnished 2-bedroom suite that feels like a luxury apartment. The washer/dryer is tucked away neatly, and you have a full kitchen and dining table. Perfect for long stays and large groups of 4-6 people.
Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya: New Luxury Standard
This is the first “Hyatt House” in Japan, located directly connected to Shibuya Station (Sakuragaoka area). It brings a new level of luxury to extended stays.

Every room here features a kitchenette and a washer/dryer, combining the comfort of an apartment with the service of a luxury hotel (including an indoor pool!). It’s brand new and located in the modern Shibuya Sakura Stage complex.
Quick Guide: How to Use Japanese Washing Machines
Japanese appliances can be intimidating with all the Kanji buttons. Don’t worry, here is a quick visual guide.
Control Panel Translation

Most machines in hotels are “Drum Type”. Simply put clothes in, power “On” (入), and press “Start” (スタート). If it’s a washer/dryer combo, look for the button that says “Wash & Dry” (洗濯 & 乾燥). If you only wish to wash, choose “洗濯” and press “Start” (スタート)!
Summary: Why these hotels are rare and recommended

To be honest, 95% of hotels in Japan do NOT have in-room washing machines. Most guests have to use shared coin laundries.
The three hotels listed above (Tokyu Stay, MIMARU SUITES, Hyatt House) are rare gems. They offer in-room laundry without compromising on cleanliness or service quality and loved by Japanese guests too! They are highly recommended for families and couples who want to travel smart.😊
