Insider Tips from Local Japanese

As a 20-year Tokyo resident, I simply LOVE Shinjuku. It’s a diverse area encompassing the office district around, shopping at Isetan, the lively Kabukicho, nostalgic Golden Gai, Okubo’s Korean Town, and the LGBTQ-friendly Shinjuku Ni-chome. Shinjuku welcomes everyone of every types, that’s why I love here.

Tips for Finding Budget Hotels in Shinjuku

When I first arrived Shinjuku 20 yrs ago from my hometown Osaka, I felt like Shinjuku was a maze. (After 20 years, I know everywhere.😂) It’s vast if you walk around.

So, here’s a local advice, to make Shinjuku actually easy – just think of it in areas around Shinjuku Station! This should help you not only seaching budget hotels here but also when actually arriving here.

Areas Around Shinjuku Station

West: It’s an office district with hotels – nice and quiet at night. Tip: Don’t miss the free observation deck at the Tokyo Metropolitan Building. It has amazing views!

East: It’a an entertainment district where you’ll find Kabukicho and Golden Gai. Lively at night with countless restaurants and shops.

North East: It’s home to Korea Town, always bustling with young people and plenty of hotels. Energetic area.

South: It’s a peaceful area and it has the spacious Shinjuku Gyoen park. Tha park is best around cherry blossom time in April.
