Sumida Aquarium: Tickets, Discounts, Tips and Hotels Explained (Oct 2024)

Want to experience a uniquely Japanese aquarium in Tokyo? Sumida Aquarium, located in Tokyo Skytree, is the perfect spot for Tokyo sightseeing.

This guide covers key info on tickets, prices, booking, discounts, and family friendly tips from locals. We’ll also suggest some great nearby hotels for your stay.

What to See There?

Sumida Aquarium is a popular aquarium located in Tokyo Skytree. Its main attraction is its adorable penguins🐧. It also features a dreamlike jellyfish exhibit and “Edo-rium,” Japan’s largest goldfish display area with unique Japanese-style designs great for photos.

The aquarium houses 260 species, including sand tiger sharks and rays in large tanks. Wait…looking for dolphins?🐬 Unfortunately, this aquarium doesn’t have dolphins or dolphin shows. For those in Tokyo, Aqua Park Shinagawa or Shinagawa Aquarium offer the best dolphin shows in Tokyo.

Insider tip: Since September 2024, baby green sea turtles are on display until summer 2025! Don’t miss seeing the adorable newborns!🐢

Goldfish display is the Japan’s largest.

Compared to other Tokyo aquariums, Sumida Aquarium is newer with a dreamy atmosphere and unique Japanese-style goldfish displays. It’s compact, taking about 1.5 hours to explore, but remember – no dolphin shows.
